
BLYTHEWOOD – Carrington Carter threw two touchdown passes to Jayden Boyd and Quentin McGill rushed for two touchdowns as Westwood (5-2, 2-1 Region 5-5A) shut out Spring Valley (2-6, 0-4) Friday.
Muhsin Yakubu’s field goal put the Redhawks up 3-0. Later, Carter shovel passed to Jayden Boyd, who completed the 44-yard catch-and-run play to the end zone and put Westwood up 10-0 just before the half.
It was Westwood’s fifth win of the season and second shutout.
The Redhawks scored on their first two possessions of the second half to take a 24-0 lead.
Boyd, a former Duke commit, decommitted from the school over the weekend. The senior won gold in the 100-and 200-meter dashes and long jump as a sophomore running on the 2A state champion Fairfield Central track and field team.
Westwood plays host to Lugoff-Elgin (4-4, 1-3), which lost 26-0 to Ridge View (5-2, 3-0) last week, Friday.
