BLYTHEWOOD – The Town of Blythewood is preparing to kick off the Christmas season with its annual Tree Lighting and Christmas Parade.
The holiday season will begin with the Town’s Tree Lighting ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 30 at Town Hall in Doko Meadows Park. The tree lighting ceremony will begin at 5 p.m., but pre-ceremony music will begin at 4:30 p.m.
The annual event is a local favorite. Attendees can enjoy music, refreshments, and the opportunity to meet and take photos with Santa when he stops by from the North Pole. Town Hall is located at 171 Langford Road.
Holiday festivities will continue on Sunday, Dec. 7 with the Town of Blythewood Christmas Parade, scheduled for 2 p.m. This year’s theme is “Storybook Christmas”.
The parade will proceed south along Main Street, turn onto Blythewood Road, and finish at the Recreation Center on Boney Road.
Miss Blythewood USA Carlisle Cooper will serve as the Grand Marshal, with Janet Moak and Mike Ross as the Emcees. The parade route will affect parts of Oakhurst Road, Main Street, Blythewood Road, Boney Road, and McNulty Street.
The parade will take place rain or shine. Due to short staffing, Town Hall says there will be no severe weather date this year.
Right before the parade, families can enjoy Selfies & Cookies with Santa at the Blythewood Historical Society & Museum. This pre-parade event runs from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on December 7th at the Museum, located at 100 McNulty Rd.
