
WINNSBORO – The Griffins, a No.2 seed in the upper state bracket of the 2A playoffs, eased past No.4 Chesnee 50-21 Friday at E.K. McLendon Stadium.
A last-minute second quarter score from 43 yards out by Kenyan Douglas put Fairfield ahead 21-7 at halftime. Kaden Diggs ran one in from 15 yards out give Fairfield even more distance midway through the third.
Following a Chesnee score, Fairfield’s Kaylin Culp returned a 57-yard kickoff for a score. A successful PAT from Sidney Wilson put Fairfield up 43-14. Derek Cammon ran in Fairfield’s last score of the night from nine yards out with eleven minutes to spare in the fourth. Another Wilson PAT put the Griffins up 50-14.
Chesnee managed another score with under a minute remaining in the game, but the deficit remained and Fairfield held on for the 50-21 win, eliminating Chesnee (5-6) from playoff play.
The Griffins (8-3) go on the road to take on No.1 seed Andrew Jackson (7-4) Friday. The Volunteers dismissed Ninety Six 34-15 last week. The winner of Friday’s game will move on to a third-round game against the winner of Clinton/Saluda.
