BLYTHEWOOD – After strong 24-25 runs, Blythewood Wrestling is back on the mats to take on the new season.
Entering the season with a #5 pre-season ranking, the Bengal girls immediately proved they belong in the elite tier during their Dec. 3 season opener. In a tri-match, Blythewood dominated #17 Clover 54-18 and took down #4 ranked Boiling Springs, 42-27.

They carried the momentum into the Dec. 6 “Brawl in the Halls” Duals in Rock Hill, where they played third out of 10 teams.
They hosted their first match of the season on Tuesday against Ashley Ridge and cruised to a command 57-6 win.
The Bengal boys hosted a quad-meet on Tuesday in conjunction with the girls’ match. They downed Irmo 58-17, then fell to #6 Chapin 40-34 and #3 Ashley Ridge 48-20. Senior captain Elijah Johnson tallied career win number 100 in the quad-meet.
Ranked #9 in the preseason, the boys opened the season officially with a 3-0 sweep in a quad-meet on Dec. 2. They beat Midland Valley 99-11, then took down #16 River Bluff 54-24 and #18 Berkley 47-21.
The Bengal boys hit their first bump of the early season on Dec. 3 in a tri-match at Boiling Springs. They fell to Clover 64-12, but defeated Boiling Springs 46-29.
The boys competed in “The Southern Slam” at Eastside High School over the weekend. Seniors and returning state qualifiers Patrick O’Donnell and Jeremy Galloway placed in the meet. O’Donnell placed sixth in the 132lb class, and Galloway finished seventh in HWY.
The boys will wrestle at the Silver Fox Invitational on Dec. 13 at Dutch Fork; the girls will travel to Greenwood for the Ladies Invitational on Dec. 12. Both teams will host Greenwood and Rock Hill on Wednesday.
