COLUMBIA – Richard Winn’s boys basketball season ended Monday at Cardinal Newman in the SCISA Class 1A quarterfinals with an 85-52 loss to Ragin Prep.

The Eagles reached the quarterfinal round after narrowly defeating region foe King Academy 34-33 on Saturday at Wilson Hall. In that opening-round contest, senior Bennett Nicholson led Richard Winn with 18 points. Eighth-grader Flynn Berry chipped in nine points, junior Trey Atkerson had five, and freshman Walker Blackwelder scored two.
The postseason run stalled on Monday against Ragin Prep. While the Eagles’ offense put up 52 points, they were unable to keep pace with Ragin Prep’s transition game in the 33-point defeat.
Richard Winn finishes the season with an 11-11 overall record. Ragin Prep (16-12) advances to the state semifinals to face Marlboro Academy on Feb 26.
Nicholson and Blackwelder both received All-Region nods.
