Whatchya Got Cookin’ Fairfield?

Pouring over cookbooks from the county’s kitchens are Norma Branham, left, known throughout the county for her good home cooking, especially her fudge and cheesestraws; Gary Freeman of the Can’t Quit Smokin’ BBQ team, who cooks frequently at the Church of the Nazarene in Winnsboro; and Lelia Mae Woodard, who heads up her church’s crock pot ministry, supervises the kitchen at Shady Grove Independent Church on Highway 34 and whose specialty is pot roast.

An organizational meeting for volunteers to assemble a Fairfield County cookbook will be held Monday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the new temporary Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce, 120 N. Congress St. (formerly the headquarters of the Fairfield Co. Republican Party), in Winnsboro. The Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce is preparing a taste-tempting custom cookbook featuring recipes from the residents and businesses of Fairfield County, according to Terry Vickers, president of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.

“Besides some great Fairfield County recipes, the cookbook will contain special interest pages, helpful cooking hints and recipe category dividers,” Vickers said. “It is sure to be treasured for years to come. And, best of all, it will be ready for Christmas gift-giving!”

Vickers said the sales proceeds will go to advertising, training and other enhancements to benefit Fairfield County.

“This is a great way to involve everyone in the county and, simultaneously, help generate funds for the Chamber,” she said.

Vickers seeks community volunteers to:

1. Share two of your famous recipes and ask others to do the same. (Use the form inserted in papers distributed in Fairfield County.

2. Spread the word about the cookbook project via email, Facebook or other social media.

3. Volunteer to enter the recipes into a database and for other jobs in getting the cookbook published.

4. Help pre-sell the cookbooks.

Vickers asks that recipes be sent in soon so they can be entered in the database by June 15. For questions, call Denise Jones at 803-361-2013.
