BLYTHEWOOD – Just in the program’s second year, Blythewood boys’ volleyball has made a name for itself. This year, they added 5A Region 5 Champion to their credentials.

The Bengals finished the region with an unblemished 6-0 record – so unblemished, in fact they went 12-0 in sets played against region opponents.

Blythewood’s top region finish earned them a two-seed in the SCHSL 5A Division 1 playoffs, giving them a first round bye. They hosted Carolina Forest for a second round match on Oct. 23.

Carolina Forest bested Blythewood 3-0 with 25-22, 25-22 and 25-11 finals to end the Bengals’ playoff run just short of the semifinals. Blythewood wrapped the season with a 13-14 record.

Andrew Bottar led the Bengals with 2.5 kills per set, 117 total kills on the season. Zander Duay led in digs with 263 on the season (an average of 17.5 per match). Eighth-grader Ryan Bottar had a team-high 187 assists; he also had 33 aces. Cooper Hicklin led with 34 aces on the season; Jayse Browne, had a team-high 40 blocks.
