FLORENCE – Westwood High School’s cross country teams capped off their 2025 season at the Region V 5A meet and the SCHSL 5A Division 2 State Qualifiers.
At the region meet, held Oct. 28 at West Florence High School, the Westwood girls finished sixth overall with 128 points. Sophomore Rebecca Ashley led the Redhawks with a seventh-place finish in 21:23.80, followed by junior Christina Tyndall at 22:28.80 in 14th place. Sophomores Gabrielle Singleton (33rd) and Zakiya Carter (37th) came in at 25:06.90 and 28:30.60, respectively. Brianna Ratcliff rounded out Westwood’s times at 32:25.50.
The Westwood boys also finished sixth, earning 143 points.
Sophomore Aiden Adkins was the top Westwood finisher, coming in 18th place at 18:42.90. Freshman Sean Bullock finished at 18:45.20 for 20th place. Blaize Owen, a senior, came in at 19:41.50. Eighth-grader Ty Owen finished at 20:05.70, and senior Aidan Simmons clocked in at 21:29.00.
Both teams advanced to compete in the 5A State Qualifiers on Nov. 8 at The Farm XC Course in Newberry, where they faced tough competition in the 5A Division 2 Odd group.
The Redhawk girls placed 11th out of 12 teams, led again by Ashley, who finished 18th overall in 21:25.40. Teammates Christina Tyndall (23:52.60, 51st), Gabrielle Singleton (25:48.50, 70th), Brianna Ratcliff (28:06.70, 77th), and Heather Rabon (32:48.30, 85th) rounded out the scoring.
The Westwood boys also finished 11th out of 12 teams. Sean Bullock led the way in 19:01.50 (38th), followed by Blaize Owen (19:15.40, 46th), Ty Owen (19:36.40, 56th), Aiden Adkins (20:20.00, 64th), and Aidan Simmons (21:23.40, 75th).
Though neither team advanced to the state championship, both the Redhawks boys and girls teams closed their seasons with strong runs and solid representation at the state level.
