RIDGEWAY – A pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle on Longtown Road about two miles north of Ridgeway Monday night.
The incident occurred at 10:50 p.m., Monday, April 6.
A 2015 Dodge Charger was traveling north on Longtown Road when it hit the pedestrian, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Brandon Bolt.
The pedestrian, Cornelius Moore, 50, of Ridgeway, was walking on the roadway in dark clothing when he was struck, according to Fairfield Coroner Chris Hill.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured, according to the report.
Hill said the driver of the Dodge Charger did stop, called 911, and waited for law enforcement and EMS to arrive on scene.
An autopsy will be scheduled for this week with Newberry Pathology to determine cause of death. The accident remains an active investigation by Fairfield County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
