Letters: Keep Up The Fight

I think most would agree that the bringing forth of life is a tremendous blessing.  However, we can’t look past the fact that women experience pregnancy in many different circumstances, some extremely difficult and even life threatening.  The right to make decisions about what is best for her own body is just that… her decision.

A woman’s body and reproductive system is complex.  It cannot be subjugated to one size fits all laws such as the abortion bans put forth in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi which will make it against the law for a woman to receive an abortion after the sixth week of her pregnancy, before many even realize that they are pregnant and have not had time to consult a physician.

I can’t sit back in silence at a time when women’s rights are not only being rolled back but they are under attack.  Make no mistake, this attack will disproportionately affect Black and Brown women living in low income communities. I am not alone in this fight, Senator Cory Booker is also taking a stand!  He believes that an attack on women’s rights is an attack on human rights!  Senator Booker has promised that if elected president he will create a White House Office of Reproductive Freedom, reverse the Trump administration’s actions that forbid some providers from mentioning abortion and appoint judges who will uphold Roe v. Wade.  This is a time when we must take a hard stand!  We have fought long and hard for the rights we do have, we MUST keep up the fight!

The struggle continues,

Representative Annie E. McDaniel
