I am running for re-election in County Council District 2, and as I am out talking with my constituents I have been surprised when some have said they were told I am was involved in making the decision to locate the Mitford Recreation Center in its current location between Districts 2 and 3.
I had nothing whatsoever to do with any decisions regarding where to place the recreation center. In fact, I was not even on the council when those decisions were made and no one consulted me.
It was in July of 2015 when then District 2 Councilwoman Carolyn Robinson and then District 3 Councilman Col. Walter Stewart began discussing a location for that center. In December of that year, they asked council to approve the location where it stands today. It was approved and built before I was ever elected to Council.
My first involvement with the Mitford Recreation Center came after I was elected to council in 2016 and attended the grand opening of the building.
Just wanted to set the record straight.
