Fairfield Central’s Tavaris Cook lays down a bunt in Monday’s Region III-2A contest at Eau Claire. Behind starting pitcher Lane Floyd, the Griffins mopped up the Shamrocks 16-3 to lock down a second-place region finish. Fairfield Central was slated to host Chesterfield in round 1 of the state playoffs on May 1.

It was like New Orleans in Ridgeway on Saturday as shoppers were treated to the trumpet sounds of Dennis Bright, a Ridgeway resident. Bright played for appreciative passersby outside The Town Hall Restaurant. Behind him, the restaurant’s owner, Vesha Sanders, is busy dipping ice cream into waffle cones just off the griddle for hungry shoppers.
