Honest Budget

When is Fairfield County going to show us an honest, truthful budget? The budgets now are made up to show where the taxpayers’ tax money through millage is going to be spent, not the actual amount that is received from all sources.

Fiscal year 2013 had a total to be spent of $69,970,638.48. The school received $22,162,798.65. Amount left for County expenditures: $47,807,839.83.

Fiscal year 2014 had a total to be spent of $77,404,072.20. The school received $26,289,970.81. Amount left for County expenditures: $51,114,101.39.

Fiscal year 2015 had a total to be spent of $96,337,329.34. The school received $29,177,242.39. Amount left for County expenditures: $67,160,086.95.

The school’s portion and County’s portion grows each year. We have two accountants, not one like most counties. Their salaries combined are over $150,000. The accountants and County Administrator need to explain where the extra money is being spent.

Our budget each year is always in the range of $25-26 million, yet we spend over twice that amount.

After my research, I find it hard to believe Fairfield County needed to borrow $23.6 million. One of the Facilities Board members told me it was borrowed so the County would not have to share money from the two new reactors because of stretching the loan out so long and having to pay back nearly $50 million.
