This golf game could take you to Italy

Wendy Robinson, Chairwoman of the silent auction | Barbara Ball

BLYTHEWOOD – “The VillageOpen golf tournament at Cobblestone Park Golf Club is not just a great day of golf. It’s about students experiencing life change at Getaway (camp) and students receiving training as leaders at Student Leadership University,” said Wendy Robinson, chairwoman of the VillageOpen silent auction.

Sponsored by the Village Church in Blythewood, the VillageOpen golf tournament is the church’s annual fundraiser to help offset the costs and offer scholarships for students to attend trips that will help them grow spiritually and bring the gospel to people all over the world, Robinson said.

“As we play golf and raise money,” Robinson said, “our desire is that Jesus Christ would be glorified through the lives that will be touched because of this great event.”

The day of golf set for Monday, May 21, will kick off with registration, warm-up and a silent auction at 10:30 a.m. After tournament instructions at 11:30 a.m., the shotgun start is set for 12 noon.

Box lunches will be provided for the course and dinner after the tournament.

Silent auction items will include vacation trips to the Myrtle Beach and other S.C. beaches, an Italy getaway, fishing and hunting trips, concert and sporting event tickets and other great buys, Robinson said.

There will also be door prizes and game prizes (closest to the pin, etc.).

Sponsorships are still available for corporate, team, individual player and holes. Cost is $500 for a four-person team and $125 for individual players. Financial donations can be made online at blythewoodvillage.com, or by check made payable to VillageChurch. Mail checks to VillageChurch, 574 Rimer Pond Road, Blythewood, S.C. 29016 (memo: VillageOpen donation).

For more information about the tournament, contact the church office at 419-0989. To make a silent auction donation, go to myminiauction.com or call Robinson at 920-5969.
