LongCreek Church men prepare luncheon for Ladies Day

When the women of the LongCreek Church of Christ decided to host a Ladies Day that was held on Saturday, they gratefully accepted the offer of the men of the congregation to prepare and serve lunch. While one of the women said she didn’t know how she expected the meal to turn out, she said the gesture was thoughtful and she was prepared to enjoy whatever was served.

As the women listened to several speakers in the sanctuary during the morning, the men locked the front doors to the adjacent family life building where, under the direction of able member/chef Dr. Gary Bell, they set about cooking, spreading white tablecloths, arranging flowers in table vases and folding two shades of purple cloth napkins into what amounted to art work. At noon, the men, dressed in white shirts and ties, were ready to open the doors to the women who were more than a little pleasantly surprised at the luncheon tables.

LongCreek Church’s Ladies Day turned into a day of service for the men of the church. Charles Singleton, right, Matthew Lee, Wayne Sanders, Vaugn Dowell, David Weller, Goaquin Graham, David Spears, and Leon Philpot helped to make Sunday lunch a memorable experience.

As they took in the beauty of the tables, several expressed amazement that their husbands turn out such a dining experience.

“I didn’t know my husband could cook,” one woman said, laughing with surprise, then just as quickly asked that her name not be used because she didn’t want to hurt her husband’s feelings. The men also offered the women gift bags as they left. Then, best of all, the men cleared the tables and washed the dishes after the event ended.
