Guest Editorial: Blythewood Community Food Drive – Together, We Can Make a Difference

BLYTHEWOOD – As the season of giving approaches, the Town of Blythewood is coming together to support our neighbors in need through a community-wide food drive benefiting the Christian Assistance Bridge Food Bank (CAB). During the months of November through January, we invite all residents, schools, churches, and local businesses to join hands and help ensure that no family in our community goes hungry due to the government shutdown, which does have an impact right her in Blythewood.

Food insecurity affects more families in our area than many realize. Rising costs and economic challenges have left many households struggling to put food on the table. By donating to local food banks, you are helping provide essential items to families who rely on community support during difficult times. Even one can of soup, a box of cereal, or a bag of rice can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.

How You Can Help

We are asking for non-perishable food items such as canned vegetables, fruits, soups, pasta, peanut butter, rice, beans, cereal, and boxed meals. Please avoid glass containers and expired products. If you prefer to make a monetary donation, contributions can be made directly to the Christian Assistance Bridge through their website or by check. Every dollar helps them purchase fresh produce and essential groceries at discounted prices.

Why This Matters

The spirit of Blythewood has always been one of generosity and compassion. This food drive is more than just a collection—it’s a reflection of who we are as a community. When we come together, we remind one another that kindness and unity can transform lives. Each donation, large or small, is a step toward building a stronger, more caring Blythewood.

Get Involved!

We encourage families, civic organizations, youth groups, and local businesses to organize mini-drives or friendly competitions to collect food. Post photos of your donations on social media using the hashtag #BlythewoodGivesBack to inspire others to participate! Volunteers are also needed to help sort, pack, and deliver donations to the food bank—another great way to make an impact. Please contact the CAB for volunteer opportunities.

We will discuss additional ways to assist at the upcoming special called meeting on Nov. 13 at Doko Manor. We are also looking to partner with local businesses and civic organizations so if you know of an organization able to assist, please contact Town Hall or one of your local representatives. Additional details will be forthcoming on our Facebook page and town website.

Let’s make this holiday season brighter for everyone in our town. Your generosity will help fill shelves, nourish families, and spread hope throughout our community. Together, we can make sure every table in Blythewood has food on it this winter.
