Eagles finish regular season

WEST COLUMBIA – Richard Winn’s young ace Zack Taylor (10) cusps the ball as he begins his delivery in last week’s game against the Palmetto Athletic Club Panthers. The Eagles finished region action with a 6-0 record and claimed a SCISA 1-2A Region Championship.

Airport bests Redhawks in Round 1

WEST COLUMBIA – Westwood stayed close to Region IV-4A champion Airport Tuesday, probably too close for the Eagles comfort. Pitcher Matthew Oxendine kept Airport batters guessing through five innings, but the Redhawks couldn’t get a run across and the Eagles slipped away with a 3-0 victory in the District IV Tournament. COLUMBIA – The baseball and softball regular seasons have reached their conclusions, and that means the State recently released their season-ending Midlands stat leaders. Bengals shut out Sumter in Round 1

SUMTER – The Bengals finished their regular season with a blowout win over Spring Valley and carried that momentum into the first round of the playoffs. Starting pitcher Landon Lucas and relief pitcher John Lanier combined to shut out Sumter in the Bengals’ 11-0 blowout. Lucas pitched five strong innings, only giving up four hits

Blythewood LAX loses in Round 2

BLYTHEWOOD – The Blythewood Bengals boys’ lacrosse team finished 8-7 this season, good enough for an eight seed in the 5A State Playoffs. The Bengals were matched-up with River Bluff in the first round, and the Gators were no contest for the Bengals. They eliminated River Bluff 7-3 and faced Dorman in the second round.
