Maverick archers gear up for second tourney

GILBERT – Midlands STEM Charter School’s archery team competed in the Battle of the Bows on Dec. 13 at Gilbert High School.

With only one senior and one freshman, the team is otherwise composed of middle school students. Frances Self, Autumn Felder, Clayton Voyles, and Aviyon Jackson scored higher than 200.

Self had a team-high score of 236, a personal-best score. Her score ranked her 28th out of 62 for Middle School Girls and 14th out of 19 for eighth grade girls. Her overall girls’ rank is 66 out of 159.

Felder scored 232, 40th out of 60 high school girls and 14th out of 24 ninth grade girls for an overall girls’ rank of 73 out of 149.

Voyles scored 215 for 41st out of 53 middle school boys and 13th out of 15 eighth grade boys. His overall rank is 90th out of 133.

Jackson scored 205, which placed him 45th out of 53 middle school boys and 17th out of 22 sixth grade boys. His overall boys’ rank is 98 out of 133.

The team is set to compete at the Bad to the Bow tournament at Gilbert Middle School on Saturday, Jan 17. They will compete in their first state qualifier on Jan. 24 at Batesburg-Leesville High School.
