Letter to Editor: It’s Ethics – Where’s the Money?
I would like to share my opinion: I’m sure I’m not the only one to feel this way.
As a citizen who voted for Mayor Sloan Griffin for his character and on merit, not his color, I find Mr. Straiters’ full review and treatment of the article about Mayor Griffin provocative. Mr. Straiter (and his organization) appears to have received $20,000 in hospitality tax revenue.
The Mayor is being challenged due to his own record, not his color. For example, he made a position for Tiffany Cooks who was, at that time, under SLED investigation. She is now under a 16-count indictment by SLED, charged with public corruption.
And what about Mayor Griffin’s involvement in the financial losses at Doko Manor in the thousands due to not following the process set up by the Town government? And now, giving $20,000 to Mr. Straiter and his business.
These are the reasons all citizens should be concerned and want to resolve these issues …not because of Mayor Griffin’s color, but because of unethical issues.
Mr. Straiter talks about transparency and fairness. It is not fair that the Blythewood citizens have to shoulder the burden of missing $20,000 and thousands more in loss at Doko manor.
Transparency is what we all want!
